ABOUT US
Sanctuary for Families is New York's leading service provider and
advocate for survivors of domestic violence, sex trafficking and
related forms of gender violence. Every year, Sanctuary empowers
thousands of adults and children to move from fear and abuse to
safety and stability, transforming lives through a comprehensive
range of services. We provide a range of wrap-around services to
help survivors rebuild their lives in the aftermath of abuse, and
work to end gender violence through three key strategies: direct
services, outreach and training, and systems-change advocacy. Our
services are available in 12 locations throughout New York
City.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Senior Crisis Intervention Specialist is the first point of
contact for potential clients and will be responsible to provide
information and referrals to callers, including intake screening
for services and safety assessments to survivors of domestic
violence, human trafficking, and other forms of gender violence.
Provide information on New York State Office of Victims Services
and assist in the filing compensation applications to clients.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides crisis intervention for callers with a focus on trauma,
victimization, and other related issues.
Conducts initial screenings and safety assessment to survivors of
domestic violence human trafficking and other forms of gender
violence.
Conducts shelter screening and assessment.
Provides information on New York State Office of Victims Services
(OVS) to all clients or potential clients.
Assists in the filing of OVS compensation applications for
clients.
Provides information and referrals to callers.
Manage the webchat (Resource Connect), engage in connecting callers
to services as needed.
Coordinates hotline back up schedule.
Connects clients to a counselor to conduct comprehensive
assessments.
Participates in the training of staff and students for hotline
responsibilities.
Maintains accurate case records and utilizes internal database
systems to track services to clients.
Facilitates workshops or other group activities as needed.
Provides training or coaching to new staff around helpline
screening as needed.
Liaises with other departments as needed to ensure all callers are
assisted.
Tracks trends in callers and seeks new resources for callers who
are not eligible for our services.
Collaborates with the data team on enhancements to the intake
process and danger assessment training.
Keeps the agency database updated for all new clients.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
BA Degree in Social Work, Psychology or Counseling required.
Fluency in Spanish required.
Successful work experience in the role of crisis intervention
specialist for a minimum of one year.
Demonstrated ability to work with clients of different ethnic and
socio-economic backgrounds.
Trained to work with clients experiencing sexual exploitation,
domestic violence and other gender-related issues.
Experience working with immigrants and sensitivity to issues
surrounding immigrant communities.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team,
including working collaboratively with professionals across
disciplines, (e.g. domestic violence advocates, social workers,
housing specialists, case managers, attorneys, police officers,
government officials, workforce development professionals and other
community-based agency staff.)
Demonstrated proficiency in multi-tasking and organizational
skills.
Budgeted Salary: $30.60 - 33.80 per hour; (base annualized salary
$55,688 - 61,514 per year); based on experience pursuant to wage
scale in accordance with collective bargaining agreement
Work position is Full-time; Hourly/Non-Exempt
Work schedule is currently hybrid; must be able to meet job
location schedule obligations
