EMPLOYER: CB&I Storage Tank Solutions, LLC
LOCATION: Plainfield, IL
DUTIES: Oversee scheduling and execution of welding
procedure qualifications and various technical projects performed
in the welding laboratory. Assist in training new welding engineers
during their assignments within the welding technology group.
Generate work instructions for welding laboratory. Create welding
procedure specifications and procedure qualification records per
applicable codes and contract specifications. Provide instruction
during training classes offered by the welding technology group.
Polish and etch weld specimens, perform Vickers, Brinell, and
Rockwell hardness tests, as well as mechanical testing of weld
specimens. Assist with shop activities including test plate
cutting, beveling, fitting and welding. Perform in-house
Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) of welded test plates and
mock-ups. Oversee and operate field post weld heat treatment
utilizing luminous flame burners. Evaluate various consumables and
welding equipment. Train field personnel in the use of mechanized
welding equipment. Assist in the installation, set-up and testing
of prototype welding systems. Troubleshoot proprietary welding
systems and assist in training other team members to
REQUIREMENTS: Bachelors degree or foreign equivalent in
Welding Engineering or Engineering Technology or related field plus
2 years of work experience in each of the following skills: 1)
applying Welding Procedure Specifications (WPSS) and Procedure
Qualification Records (PQRS); 2) performing metallurgical testing;
3) interpreting and applying codes and standards including ASME IX,
ASME VIII, API 650 and AWS D1.1.; 4) troubleshooting welding power
sources and automated welding equipment; 5) working with CAD; 6)
conducting field post weld heat treatments; and 7) performing weld
cost and volume estimates and analyzing non-conformances.
REQUIREMENTS: Certification in the International
Institute of Welding (IIW), International Welding Technologies
(IWT), or Engineer (IWE) diploma and SNT-TC-1A Level 2 in: Leak
Testing (LT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Liquid Penetrant
Testing (PT), Radiographic Testing (RT), & Visual Testing (VT)
REQUIREMENT: Up to 25% international and domestic travel
required to various job sites and project locations.
