The ACLU seeks a full-time position of Deputy Executive Director
at the ACLU of North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming Chapter in
Jackson, Wyoming. This role is located in Jackson, WY.We are taking
our organization to the next level by strengthening our legal
firepower, building legislative strength, expanding communications
methods, and creating winning issue campaigns. To meet these
objectives, the ACLU of North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming has
adopted a "campaign" approach for its work. Work is focused on
pursuing specific integrated advocacy campaigns to achieve
measurable goals that will expand civil liberties and civil rights
while building the long-term power of the ACLU and the civil
liberties' movement.WHAT YOU'LL DOReporting to the Executive
Director of the Dakotas/Wyoming Chapter, the Deputy Executive
Director is a senior leadership position that will operationalize
the Executive Director's vision for the organization, which has
been developed in close and continuous consultation with the Senior
Leadership Team. They assist the Executive Director in managing and
leading the ACLU of North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming, to
include: staff supervision; building an effective, culturally
competent, and values-aligned organizational culture; ensuring
high-impact program work via alignment across departments with the
Chapter's strategic plan; oversight of staff compliance with
organizational policies and relevant laws; and driving day-to-day
progress on the creation of an ACLU WY affiliate.The Deputy
Director is responsible for ensuring that the Chapter operates
smoothly, staff understand expectations and priorities, and
facilitating a collaborative, strategic, efficient workflow among
multiple departments.YOUR DAY TO DAYStrategic Leadership,
Supervision, and Collaboration
- Lead the Chapter's annual budget process in collaboration with
the Executive Director; ensure fidelity to the budget throughout
the course of the year and work with department staff to
proactively anticipate and plan for budgetary needs.
- Provide thought-partnership and support to the Executive
Director regarding the creation of an independent WY
affiliate.
- Supervise staff as assigned.
- Assist with development and fundraising as
assigned.Organizational Alignment and Impact
- Collaborate and lead as appropriate on the creation and
evolution of the Chapter's strategic plan.
- Create systems and structures to ensure work under the
chapter-wide strategic plan is goal-oriented and implemented
effectively. Lead periodic reviews of and changes to the plan.
- Develop and implement systems for tracking and measuring the
organization's programmatic impact and alignment with the strategic
plan.
- Ensure planning, coordination, and alignment across departments
and states to maximize programmatic impact.Organizational Culture
- Lead the Chapter's ongoing culture work by building an
effective and value-aligned organizational culture. Lead staff in
strengthening cultural competency related to communities the
organization serves.
- Working with the Senior Leadership Team, create, promote and
protect a respectful, equitable workplace of belonging, including
staying apprised of and implementing best practices in equity,
diversity, inclusion, and belonging (EDIB).
- Develop systems for recruiting, onboarding, and continued
training of staff that enhance the organization's commitment to
equity, inclusion, and belonging.
- Spearhead internal communications strategy keeping staff
appraised and maintaining strong culture of connection.
- Manage staff issues as assigned, including ensuring staff have
professional development plans and effective performance management
and consulting with the Executive Director as
appropriate.Compliance
- Oversee compliance with Chapter and ACLU National
organizational policies and relevant laws.
- Interface with the National ACLU on campaign finance and
lobbying laws and rules.
- Ensure staff are accountable for meeting deadlines and
submissions of monthly programmatic and finance reports and other

working environment, especially in high-intensity situations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the
ability to build authentic relationships with staff and external
partners.
- An understanding of civil rights and civil liberties issues and
the political dynamics in the region; a "quick study" on an array
of programmatic and operational approaches.
- Fundraising experience and knowledge of non-profit development
practices.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with colleagues across
functions and departments.
- Proactive team player who inspires collaboration, lifts the
work of others, and maintains balance and perspective with
patience.COMPENSATIONThe ACLU is committed to equity, transparency,
and clarity in pay. Consistent with our compensation philosophy,
there is a set salary for each role based on geographic work
location. The annual salary for this position is $136,823 (Level -
D), reflecting the salary of a position based in Jackson, WY.
Salaries are subject to a regional pay adjustment if authorization
is granted to work outside of the location listed in this
